Photographic portraits of the natural landscape
by Mark Appleton
A passionate photographer since his early teens combining commercial photography with his graphic design business. He also enjoyed taking photos of his native landscape in Yorkshire. It wasn`t until he moved to Wester Ross in 2010 where he further developed his passion for landscape photography.
"It was a magical place to live and work and it will always hold a special place in my heart."
After a few years living in France Mark missed the light and shadow you find in the UK and relocated to the West Coast of Cumbria. He's inspired to immerse himself back into the amazing craft of photography and will be adding new photographs soon.
“What makes photography a strange invention is that its primary raw materials are time and light.”
— John Berger
Storm coming in on Uist, Outer Hebrides, Scotland
Wester Ross, Highlands of Scotland
The peaks and glens of Torridon, Beinn Eighe, Liathach, Slioch and the mighty An Teallach in Wester Ross are Mark’s spiritual home. On a typical photographic expedition he’ll rise very early – 3am in the summer – to get into the mountains to catch the light at its best.
The natural landscape of the Highlands and Islands are like no other; rugged, remote with the most amazing light. The beauty of the mountains is that they are always changing. ‘You can go out to the same location ten times and it will be totally different each time".
